Svendsen v. United States

Practice Area: Medical malpractice

Date: Jul 18, 2016

Outcome: $250,000

Description: Client’s mother died of cervical cancer due to the failure of her doctors at a federally funded clinic to perform appropriate and timely Pap smears over a 7 year period. The U.S. denied negligence, and denied that the cancer was cervical in nature, and therefore would not have been detected even if testing had been done. Extensive medical experts were retained and testified on these complex medical issues. Settlement was reached for the statutory maximum damages (California law limits damages to $250,000).
